On The Road

NYC running Brooklyn rule#5 travel

The Concrete Jungle has earned its place among the top vacation sites in the world as an ideal spot to take in theatre, art, fine dining and maybe even a bit of shopping. While your first image of New York City may be a jammed pack Times Square or an angry taxi driver screaming at pedestrians, the truth is the city is broken down into several bureaus, each with their own personality. With such a vast variation of options within the city, it’s easily a quintessential vacation spot for any type of traveler.

where to stay Where to Stay

Where to stay can be widely dictated by the “type” of New York you’d like to experience. Looking for the more hipster, chic side of the big apple? Try the Crosby Street Hotel in Soho for a quaint boutique hotel experience. The Standard is also a trendy option located in the heart of the Meatpacking District. If you’re ready to take on the full “New York Tourist” experience, we suggest a stay at the conveniently located Ace Hotel, near Madison square park that features a great coffee bar by day and a lively hot spot by night.

Best Food Best Food

  • Some of the best dining in the country can easily be found in New York City. From 3-Star Michelin restaurants to street side hot dog stands, food is just one of those things New Yorkers know how to do right. For a high end, fine dining experience stop by Cosme for some Mexican fusion (the duck carnitas cannot be missed). Looking for something tasty on the other side of the bridge? Lilia is an Italian restaurant located in Brooklyn where every item on the menu is a hit, we particularly recommend the grilled clams, cacao e pepe fritelle, or the Mafaldini pasta with pink peppercorns. Sushi fans and LA natives will love Sugarfish, a recently opened Japanese restaurant that just transitioned from the West Coast. Finally, you can’t say you’ve made a trip to New York without trying out some Iconic New York Pizza. Emily and Emmy squared are two legendary pizza joints with the same owner. Thin crust lovers will enjoy Emily, while deep dish fans should lean towards Emmy Squared.

Best Hikes and Runs  Where to Play

Don’t be fooled by New York’s high traffic reputation, there are plenty of places for runners and bikers to play in the concrete jungle. Runner can experience the infamous run around the Hudson River, an 11-mile route stretching across New York that you’re likely to recall from a number of films and TV shows. Bear Mountain also features a number of nature trails and even hosts their own race each year. Finally, there are few things more bucket list worthy then a run or bike through Central Park. The full loop of the park spans 6 miles and features a number of spaces to rent bikes, you can also pay for a Citibike day pass for $12 or a 3 day pass for $24.

Hiking fans can also get in on the action, by Hiking Breakneck Trail, whose steep first mile offers stunning views of the Hudson, or Harriman State Park, the second largest state park in New York with a number of beautiful hiking trails.
